Minor Pool/Learn to Swim

Notice Board

Welcome Back to the swimming club. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the summer break and is feeling refreshed and ready for the season ahead. Existing members started tonight and some new members will be joining us over the next few weeks. Some swimmers have been moved across to the next group, others will remain where they finished last season for a while longer and some will move throughout the season. Progression is on an individual basis and the coaches constantly reassess swimmers and will move children as soon as they are ready. We still have the 4 main ability groups – Turtles, Crocodiles, Dolphins and Sharks. Not all groups run across the 4 sessions, we are flexible and run what is needed for the swimmers at each session. Be aware swimmers will have been in different groups for varying periods of time. There is a range of ability within and across the groups. We have tried to accommodate as many people as possible with their preferred time slots and have kept siblings together or in consecutive sessions. Saturday morning training starts on 17th September 8:30-9:30am. Swimmers in the Sharks group, if they have not previously attended these sessions, please speak to your coach and ask if your child is ready to attend. Practical points – please try to ensure your child arrives on time each week and is signed in at the club desk. Also remember to bring a good quality and properly adjusted pair of goggles. Julie

Minor Pool Awards

At the end of each swimming year, all children in the ‘Learn to Swim Programme’ take part in a minor pool swimming gala. The emphasis is on fun and taking part but also encourages healthy competitiveness and good sportsmanship. After the gala, awards are presented to the swimmers for success in the gala events and also some special awards for notable achievements throughout the year. All children in the ‘Learn to Swim Programme’ are also presented with an ASA National Swim Award. These awards are based on swimming technique and go up to level 12. Normally in the minor pool, ASA levels 1-6 are covered.
